About
Jessica Wimbley is an artist/curator based in Sacramento, California. Wimbley utilizes the literary term biomythography, defined by poet Audre Lorde as a combination of “biography, myth, and history”, as an interdisciplinary visual arts practice and framework for curatorial inquiry.
Wimbley's background working with academic museums and galleries includes experience in education departments, outreach and engagement, curation, and developing programs such as Art After Hours at the Benton Museum of Art at Pomona College. Wimbley also served as Director of Education for the Manetti Shrem Museum of Art in Davis, CA, and received a certificate in Leadership from the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries. Additionally, Wimbley has taught studio, art theory, and art history courses, and has given over 40 lectures in various colleges, universities, non-profits, museums, and galleries.
Wimbley received her BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, M.F.A in Visual Arts from the University of California, Davis, and her MA in Arts Management from Claremont Graduate University. Wimbley served in the 2024 Creative Corp in the City of Sacramento’s Department of Youth Parks, and Community Enrichment and currently serves as Artist in Residence In Twin Rivers School District in Sacramento, CA.
